Nanosized niobium (V) and tantalum (V) oxide ceramics as competitive oxidizers within aluminium-based nanothermites

Among the energetic mixtures, one category are thermites. Thermites highly reactive composites described as consisting of a fuel (metal) and an oxidizer (metal oxide) at micron scale. The use nano-sized reactants, with higher surface area to volume ratio than micron-sized counterparts, considerably increases properties consequently raises their interest. present work expands on this aspect by investigating two thermites nano-aluminium (Al) niobium (V) tantalum oxides. These oxidizers were selected based weak character micron-scale. reactants respective derived nanocomposites characterized X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy coupled energy dispersive scattering, nitrogen sorption, performance (sensitivity, combustion reaction). both systems evidenced due nanostructuring transitional metal Nb2O5 Ta2O5 in gasless nanothermites is demonstrated for first time.
